I have update to the newer SP, but the OS loves to crash.

Has anyone had better luck in XP? I would like to get some feedback before I go off and purchase another MS product, ugh.

thanks!

I've had much better luck with XP than Windows 2000. I'm using XP Professional, though Home should be just as reliable.

The best suggestion I can make regarding stability is to make sure you're running up-to-date drivers for all of your hardware, and that you are using the latest (preferably official) version of BIOS for your motherboard. I was having problems with random crashes prior to updating the BIOS on my motherboard, but now those are gone. I have a CUSL2 and am using BIOS verison 1009.

My uptimes average 15+ days, and I do a lot of digital music editing and play an occasional round of UT and Diablo II. My uptime would be longer if it weren't for all the patches that WindowsUpdate throws at me.

At the risk of sounding pushy, Win2k does not love to crash.
You've either got some dodgy drivers or some dodgy hardware.
Run windows update and make sure that the latest patches for everything are installed.
Make sure that <everything> is running the latest drivers (and make sure they're WHQL certified as well if you want to be on the safe side.)
Ensure that you have some form of up-to-date virus protection and that there are no programs running in the background that could cause instability issues.

Yes, bad hardware or drivers would make win2k more suceptible to crashing frequently. You can make any OS crash if you really tried.
