Win2k, cdburner buffer underuns...why?

I was having problems with my software not working with my burner....then i remembered what i had to do in 98...disable DMA with my burner (CL 8432). Well, at first i thought it was working great...then a bufferunderun, and again and again. For no apparent reason.

I never got em in 98, and i have a plenty fast computer...1.4 t-bird, 512megs ram...

Any ideas?

BTW i use a KK266 mobo, and have both service packs installed.

THANKS!

Do you have to disable DMA for the burner to work? That's most likely the cause of your problem. Don't forget that Win2k is a totally different OS than Win98, so just because the trick worked in one doesn't mean it'll work in the other. Are you multitasking while you burn?

Disabling DMA will make your burner use PIO. This is a slower transfer mode which would more easily cause buffer under-runs.

it's odd that you need to do this to have your burner recognized. hopefully, if this is needed in your set-up, you've got a burner with BURN-Proof

I dont have to do it in order for it to be recognized, but in order for it to work at all with while burning. When dma is enabled (win2k and win98) the computer would lock up if i tried to write anything to cd. In 98 i had NO PROBLEMS with the burner when dma was disabled. It at least writes with dma disabled in 2k, but will eventually get a buffer underrun.

Its weird, the system seems to run very slow as well when burning...which is why im guessing its underrunning, i guess what i need to find out then is why is it running so crappy when burning??

Hmmm on a related note....

My main harddrive (the harddrive my OS is running on, not my programs) doesnt seem to wanna run in dma. It wants to run in IPO... Interesting no?
