Hi Y'all,
I'm having a problem with one of my systems. Currently I am running four comps:
Working:
PII 400@500 Win2K Dlink NIC IP-192.168.x.4
PIII 500 Win2K Dlink NIC ip-192.168.x.2
P133 98lite Kingston NIC IP-192.168.x.3
Not working:
C600@936 Win2k/98lite 3com NIC IP-192.168.x.1
However, this comp will work in 98lite PERFECTLY
In Win2K I can't network at all. I can access the internet through my Linksys switch/router.(thanks Staples) On the router it even says I am connected at 100mbs. I have file/print sharing enabled and all users have user accounts. I can ping all comps from the broken system with their ip adress, but NOT with their netbios name. If I try to access the network through Network Neighborhhod or Windows Explorer, either program freezes and I need to close it with the TaskManager. Anyone heard of this before? Suggestions please.
As Always,
D

Program freeze suggests hardware or NIC issue (driver, IRQ or PCI slot problem). Also, make sure all computers have exactly the same workgroup name and unique host names - then, if you set Netbeui as the default LAN protocol it should work, if the hardware's OK.

Thanks for the idea. I thought it might be a hardware issue as well, but why would it work in 98lite and not 2k? I'm going to try and set my Win2k IRQs manually and see if that helps. Right now I have three devices on IRQ 11, like most Win2k people. Please keep giving me suggestions as this might not help.

NIC or driver might not be w2k compatible - check HCL. Also, I've found that NICs often don't work properly, if they work at all, in any PCI slots other than 2 or 3.

Well, I reinstalled Win2k and removed ACPI. Guess what, it worked! I guess other devices will work OK with ACPI and sharing IRQ 11, but my NIC won't take it. Oh well. Thanks for all your help, here and in other forums.
