Win2k Can't Copy Large Files Over Network! Help!

Ok, i am currently running a local area network of 4 Computers, 2 with Windows 98, two with Windows 2000 (One being the main server). Both have Service pack 1 installed for Win2k, have 128mb RAM, and large hard drives & reasonable processor speeds.

Now, i've had this setup for over 2 months now with no problems until about a week ago. Now, whenever i try to save or copy large files (over 3mb) from the Win2k Machine to the Other (server) i receive the error:

(?) Local Area Network
--Network Cable Unplugged

It then continues copying the file, but the file does not open as it appears to be incomplete.

When i attempt to copy again, i get the error:

"Cannot Copy File - Specified network name no longer exists"

And then the Server Drive is unavailable and i must reboot.

I've tried copying with BOTH Win98 machines and it works Flawlessly.

What could be causing this problem between the 2 Win2k machines??? BTW, everyone has Administrator Rights to the Server.

Thanks in advance

Um...it's setup through a Netgear Router with T1 Access. All the computers use the Router for internet access and are connected to each other. The main folder/server is being used from one of the Win2k Computers which has that folder Shared with FULL Rights.

Thanks

Hmm... have you tried to switch the ethernet cables? Use a different port on the router/hub?

Reinstall the network drivers (remove everything first)?

are all the pc's connected to each other thru the router? I assume that this is a 4 port router/switch?

I'd also start be removing all the network protocals from each machine and reinstalling. I have had many instances where my LAN has stopped responding...a quick reinstall solved the problem. You may want to try to set up the LAN as NETBeui and disableing TCP over NETBeui.

Interestingly enough, I am transferring 7GB worth of data over my network right now with win2K computers and am at 90% level. Everything has been fine. It is not the problem of OS.

If I were you, I would check the hub / ethernet cable. the error message that you've said might be the cause of dropped connection. It happens with bad network connection.

Well, keep on troubleshooting and good luck
