Here's what I found:

Error Message:
STOP: 0x00000012 (parameter, parameter, parameter, parameter) TRAP_CAUSE_UNKNOWN

Explanation:
This is a Windows 2000 Executive character-mode STOP message. It indicates a trap from an unknown cause.

User Action:
If this is the first time you have booted after installing new hardware, remove the hardware and boot again. Check the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List to verify that the hardware and its drivers are compatible with Windows 2000. For information about the hardware, contact the supplier. If you are installing Windows 2000 for the first time, check the Windows 2000 system requirements, including the amount of RAM and disk space required to load the operating system. Also, check the Hardware Compatibility List to verify that the system can run Windows 2000. If Windows 2000 is loaded and no new hardware has been installed, reboot with recovery options set to create a dump file. If the message continues to appear, select the Last Known Good option when you reboot. If there is no Last Known Good configuration, try using the Emergency Repair Disk. If you do not have an Emergency Repair Disk, contact your technical support group.

Yer I am getting that BSOD randomly. It doesn't happen on a "restart" but if I log off and log back on a few times it seemed to crop up. I have noticed that it comes up while it's loading some system tray softwares so I am thinking what Staver said was correct that it might be a driver problem. The funny thing is that it doesn't happen always but only when I log on and off. I can't yet pinpoint what software / driver made it crash perhaps I should take a note of the order that systray load things up and see if I can find the cause.

When do you get the BSOD Oblivion? Same situation as me or different??

Well it could be the issue since I don't get this when on my other machine which is running onboard audio. Just checked out your rig and found that we have very similar hardware. I mean the motherboard, Kingmax ram, SB Live.

I posted this very same question about 2 months ago... (never got a "true" answer)

Does anyone else that gets this STOP error use a PCI controller (like the Promise ATA-100)?

If so, that is the problem. If not, I would also like to know whats up...

I also get this when logging IN/OUT to another user (but not everytime).

PS. I have even updated the firmware and drivers of the controller.

Do you have an SBLive DocDoo?? I don't have an Promise card but I am running my drives of the BE6-II's HPT370 controllers. I really only get that problem when I log in and out several times. Although recently "just last night" I have been tinkering with my network and logged in an out many times between Admin and my personal account with no problems. It's really weird that it doesn't happen anymore?

I did uninstall and reinstall LW3 as I upgraded to the new drivers a while ago and none of the LW3 programs work anymore so I uninstalled and reinstalled it. That "could" be the cause but not really sure. Time will tell as I log in/out more :)

Yes, I am using the SBLive. However, I am not using the "LiveWire" app! I am only using the "raw-drivers" for the sound card.

For those that have this problem, lets keep each other updated.

PS. I too have an Abit board (BX-6r2).

Well then I guess we can eliminate the liveware as the cause since you don't even have it installed. Maybe it's the Abit board? But somehow I don't think so since we seemed to be the only ones around here with that problem and I am sure there are many more out there with an Abit board who don't have this problem.

I see that error to.

I get it when I use IE while my TV-tuner is running.
I only get it since I got my new motherboard.

I get it in both fresh install, and SP2.

I have a Promise Ultra100, but no SBLive.

Humm.... I am glad we can rule out the SBLive!

I know that MulLa does not use the Promise controller, but oblivion2888 what are you using?

Just before Noriaki posted, I was thinking it might be something with the Abit motherboards, but he is not using the Abit.
