I have had Windows 2000 running on my machine:

PIII 800
128Mb
ABit BE6-II rev 1.2
Creative Gforce2

For about a year. It is set up with win98SE on C:\ and win2K on D:\.

This has been fine up till recently. It now takes approx 5 minutes to boot. Everything seems to be fine till just before the logon screen appears and then there is about 3 minutes of massive hard disk activity. Once the logon screen appears, the system seems back to normal.

There are no hardware conflicts reported in the Hardware manager and no error messages that i can find anywhere else in the system.

It is even still doing it after a fresh install of the OS with no extra software installed yet. SP1 has also not been installed yet.

Windows 98 seems fine. But if i do get this sorted then I will abandon win98 and go solo with 2K.

Many thanks

Darren

Are you attatched to a network or have a NIC installed? Might be your problem there. Have the latest drivers?

Do yourself a favor and look at event viewer also. Might be something there that could point you in another direction. Right click on My Computer and click Manage. Expand the event viewer and look at all three entries while you are there. Never know what you might find!

I would also recommend you install SP1. Might cover some of the problems you are having, although there are no guarantees. ;) Luck! Will check back. Hope I gave you some ideas.
