Win2K Backup is driving me doolally. Why did they have to bring in this Removable Storage? All I want to do is slap some stuff down on tape. The hoops I have to jump thru...
I think I (intentionally) erased some tapes. Not entirely sure what I did, but when I insert the tapes in question, they're recognized as \free media\unrecognized and not \free media\4mm DAT.
I can't backup to the tapes, and Windows Backup doesn't see them. When I try to Prepare the tapes, Removable Storage tells me that the tapes are write protected (they aren't). How can I get these 10 tapes back into doing backups? I hate to think I've just thrown 10 hardly used tapes - $150 - down the plughole.
I've looked at MS's explanation of Removable Storage, but my head hurts.
Drive in question is a Sony SDT-9000. Server is an HP E800 P3/933 with stock dual U2SCSI, 512MB of RAM running Win2K Server SP2 SR1.
This is my home-play server. i.e. contains no work stuff. My home-work server uses different tapes (DDS4) and I'm wary about sticking DDS3 tapes in a DDS4 autoloader to test.
I've recently moved all my MP3's and some porn to this server. I need to backup, as it now contains arguably the most important data I keep at home
