Hello,

I have one Win2k Pro. machine, and a Win98 SE machine. The Win2k is the server with a dialup connection.

I have the two machines hooked together through a hub. Want I'm wanting to do is share the internet connection between the two without having to use software such as SyGate. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

you can't.

your OS's both have software called ICS, but its effectively the same program as sygate. with a dialup connection, your only option is to use and ics software program

Check my reply in Home Networking Help. It can be done. Remove ICS from the SE machine if you have it installed, through add/remove programs. Set up sharing on the 2K machine. To configure the client I would think would have to be done, but perhaps not. If you need to configure it you could use a client disk made from SE ICS, or you may have to do it manually.

jave2, what you are doing is using ICS, which is using internet connetion sharing software. if I understand what jbarker wants is to avoid having one comp dependent on the other, which just doesn't fly.

You'll have to use either ICS or some other proxy program. Like stated earlier, remove ICS on the 98SE machine if it's installed using Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. ICS is installed on Win2k on default. What you need to do is open Network and Dialup Settings in the Control Panel and double-click on your Local Area Connection. There's a checkbox in there somewhere that lets you enable/disable ICS.

Now, run the Internet Connection Wizard on the 98SE machine, select "I'm already connected to the Internet through a LAN," and make sure the box that says "Automatically detect proxy settings" is checked. After that, you should be good to go.
