When I installed SP 1, it wouldn't let me connect to the internet (it would hang at detecting proxy settings) and I would have to uninstall it but it seemed to fix problems i was having with videos...
any suggestions?

Hello,

Are you by any chance using software firewall programs such as BlackICE or ZoneAlarm? It is well documented that SP1 will "mess up" BlackICE and ZoneAlarm such that you will not be able to connect to the internet. If such, you need to download and install the latest updates to ZoneAlarm and BlackICE.

Edward

I had zonealarm on my system with windows 2000. I couldn't get to the internet even after installing the patch. I couldn't figure it out so I uninstalled it. I will wait until they have an upgrade before I use that little piece of software again.

I would remove zonealarm if I were you. BlackIce might be OK and work fine, but I haven't tried it myself. You really don't need both at the same time anyway. One or the other would be OK.
