I was snooping around my Document and Settings folder today because I saw that my OS partition was running low on space. What I found was that my X:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temp folder was filled with 1 gig worth of temp files. The question I have is whether I can go ahead and delete all these files w/out causing major malfuctions to my system. I see things in there from the year 2000 and I'd like to get rid of that stuff, to recover some disk space, and not have to worry about breaking anything.

Am I ok with just deleting everything from that directory?

Yep, you should be able to delete that stuff without problems. It's basically junk data that windows has stored in there that wasn't cleared out automatically for whatever reason.....

There should be disk clean up tool somewhere in windows 2000, try using that. I know on xp there's an option to delete all temp data.

I believe the cleanup tool only removes information that windows 'knows' about, it doesn't remove info left behind by various other apps and other issues. Still, you should be able to delete them manually without concern.

Nope, it's not safer, it shouldn't matter. Safe mode only makes a difference when you're trying to delete a file that is in use by some process. In theory, the files you're trying to delete in the temp folder are not going to be in use, and you should be able to delete them regardless.
