win2k and shutdown problems

I have had this installation of win2k in months. And I have no idea how to get the shutdown, or restart function to work again. Suddently it didn't work anymore. It does it the regular way until it suddently stops, and a black screen with a blinking -

I have to hold the power button for some seconds before it shuts off.

This isn't a hardware fail that I first thought it was. I have a new installation of winxp in a third partition that shuts down perfectly. As well as my old winme installation (from august 2000). I have tried the repair thing for win2k but that didn't work either.

I really don't want to reinstall the whole os, and at the moment I don't want to use winxp all the time either.

I will look @ your system(s), but provide some more information about what processes (anti-virus, etc) are running in the background. Some more detail is always helpful when posting.

Well it's my current system. Under my systems and knut's athlon.

Altough some small changes now... removed the 256 mb ram stick, so im down to 512 mb ram, changed my main harddrive from ibm 40gb 60gxp to a 80gb western digital 800bb.

Rest of it is the same. I had norton antivirus 2000 running when it happened (have had it running since I installed win2k). But I have changed to norton antivirus 2002.

I also got dns2go client running (have been running several weeks without a problem. And serv-u ftp server running for the same time. And ather apps running since I installed win2k, msn messenger, icq 2000b, audiohq, ifinger (dictionary, norwaegian<->english, and merriam websters).

No other apps were installed around the time this happened.
