I am having numerous issues with Windows Media Player 7 on Win 2K Prof and I was hoping someone had some suggestions. If I open mpeg videos my machine opens Media Player then hard locks.

The thing that is pissing me off is the fact that I have gone through and associated all mpeg format extensions (as well as avi etc) to Quicktime, and it still will only use Media Player.

My os is as follows:

Win 2K Professional
Service Pack 1
All patches and updates
User is a Power User
Not using APCI due to Soundblaster Live

My system is as follows:

Athlon 750 @ 1100
Abit KT7
256 MB Rev 2 Mushkin
GeForce 2 GTS 32MB DDR
Sound Blaster Live
ATA 100 Array

Does anyone have any ideas? I have tried reinstalling Media Player, I have tried to associate the file types with Quicktime (windows completely disregards this), and I am about 2 seconds away from completely uninstalling Media Player.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You switched file extension manually? Through folder options, etc.? That may be your problem. Open WMP --> View --> Options --> Formats and deselect all of them. Since WMP is so integrated with windows, it could be that it automatically reclaims them at every reboot or something. Then reboot, associate with Quicktime and it should work.

I just uninstalled it and went back to the old WMP and all is well. Typical, MS can't even write software to be compatible with its own operating systems.

No problems here. Been using them both for a quite awhile now.
Maybe it's an issue with you SB live and win2k?

I don't think its a SB Live issue. The only multimedia program that has issues is WMP 7. Winamp, Quicktime, VoodooTV, the older WMP. Nothing else has issues but WMP 7.

I did fix the issue with ACPI IRQ sharing and the SB Live, after that nothing has problems as far as multimedia goes (except WMP 7).

sorry of topic but: How did you fix the irq sharing? I had to pull a nic and tv turner beacuse they don`t like to share irq's. I also have a kt7.

Under Device Manager change machine type from ACPI to Standard PC. That will load a non-ACPI kernal, be careful and do at your own risk.
