Win2K and Homeworld: Cataclysm weirdness

Just installed HW:C on my Win2K machine (SP2, GeForce 256 DDR, Detonator 12.40 official) and under video options... all it gives me is Software. No option for GL or D3D. I remember seeing that GL doesn't work in Win2K with the Homeworld games, but I should at least be able to get D3D... shouldn't I?
