WIn2k Advanced Server- Need Idiot's Guide

I am not that familiar with win2k server, and am used to NT4. I am having problems getting a PDC up and running because it's totally alone right now. It keeps telling me I'm not on a network! How the hell do I set up this server without having it connected? I just want to set up a test domain to check out some configurations, and start learning more Active Directory.
PLEASE!, any links to basic guides (especially for the active-directory-ignorant) would be VERY appreciated. Thanks!

There are no PDCs or BDCs in Win2k. Only domain controllers. You promote a server to a domain controller by running the dcpromo command.

this is what im reading now. lol. My boss is an NT4 freak, and is considering upgrading, but was put off when her test server didnt just work like magic. I'm thinking I'll figure it out myself, since it will be useful for me anyways. BTW can you recommend a brand of book to buy for when i study for my win2k MCP? I know there are a lot of different publishers, which do you feel has the best readability and working examples (useful exercises for a lowly A+ cert. college kid)? No problem. I would look at getting a few books. First is the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit, ISBN 1-57231-805-8, Osborne Press Windows 2000 Administration, ISBN 0-07-882582-2, and any of the Sybex books on Windows 2000.

I'll second the Sybex books. They helped me get my MCSE. The Osborne press books are good to...I was able to pass the Win2k Accelerated Exam with it. I would look in depth at Microsoft's Windows 2000 site. They have made a REALLY good site with lots of information. Here is another site that is full of information: Windows 2000 Resource
