WIN2k - Adaptec EZ-CD Creator 4.03 Problem

I have had WIN2kPro installed and running great for several months on a PIII-500 box/Abit BX6 R2/256MB/20GB WD 205BA HDD. I've been burning CD's, accessing the internet through my cable modem etc. just fine. My HDD is connected to a Promise Ultra66 controller while my CDROM and CD R/RW are connected to the on-board IDE channels.

The problem that I have is related to the use of the Adaptec EZCD Creator program:

1. EZCD does not start automatically when I insert a blank CDR in my HP9100 IDE burner.
I tried using different burners ... Acer, HP9300 ... and this problem persisted.

2. If EZCD is started manually (Start>Programs ....) it comes up, but the list of drives/folders in EZCD "ripples" ... the HDD is being accessed heavily and the WIN2k task meter indicates 30/40/50% CPU usage. At this point EZCD is unusable and has to be shut down.

I have tried scrubbing the register, uninstalling and reinstalling EZCD, patching EZCD, removing different programs (through the Control Panel), disabling my anti-virus software, booting the HDD from an onboard ide channel while the CDR is all by itself on the other channel. Nothing has improved.

Any ideas?

I can't really think of anything for the last two, but the reason EZCD creator doesn't start manually might be because of the EZ Cd creator icon in the systray. Personally, I take it off, don't that thing running there anyway. If it's running in the systray, make sure you configure it right.

I'd give Nero a try...

If you have Direct CD installed, that could be causing problems. Also, I think there is an update for EZ-CD. If all else fails try a different program.

Bozo 😀

There is an update for EZCD, goes to 4.03e. It resolved a couple of conflict I had with EZCD and my DVD software, the readme described a couple of other fixes as well. Search Adaptec's website for the updates, they ought to help. I have the updates on a ZIP disk around here somewhere if you would like me to E-mail them to you, PM me and I'll do my best to find it.

I removed the Adaptec DirectCD program ... no difference ... I thought that I had upgraded to the most recent version of EZCD Creator ... version 4.03 (328).

I will hunt around for a newer version.

Thanks for the suggestions.
