Win2k + ACPI = SB Live! not working in DOS?

Upgraded my Win98 to Win2k a while ago and now I noticed that Fast Tracker II (a music program for DOS) doesn't detect my SB anymore. My guess would be because of ACPI, I cant get FT2 to choose IRQ 9 where all the devices are in.

So I searched MS Knowledge Base and came up with the instructions how to change from ACPI to normal PC, but there was this "Your computer will propably be fscked up and you have to format & reinstall everything." warning, how seriously I should take this?

Are there any thoughts, or is this ACPI -> normal PC my only choice?

It has nothing to do with ACPI. Win2k does not use real dos, it emulates it. Check out the VDM sound project. They might have what you're looking for.

Win2k uses IRQ9 as a gateway to virtual IRQ's. You shouldn't mess with the ACPI->Standard PC settings unless you are having IRQ conflicts.

Damn... didnt work. I have to explore that site more if there's any more info.

But thanks for the tip!

...and why I thought it might have something to do with ACPI is because in IRQ 9 is the only IRQ not available in FT2. But I seriously do hope it's not related to ACPI, I dont want to start messing with it.

Have you tried Impulse Tracker? The site says that one is compatible. Impulse Tracker's site

From what I have read about VDM, the IRQ shouldn't matter, because it is completely independent of your hardware and settings. I haven't tried it though, I have no use for dos.

Damn... I was reading the VDMSound Forum and saw this:

<< I havent got FT2 to work under W2K but I still believe it should be possible some way. I have searched alot for solutions but still havent managed to make it run correctly. >>

Seems like no one has gotten it to work so far. This truly does suck now. Very, very very much.

Guess my only solution is to make dual-boot 2k & 98.
