Hi! I was wondering if any of you have encountered this Win2k STOP error that occured to me just now which is rendering my computer useless.

It's telling mt that the ACPI Bios in my system is not fully compliant with ACPI specifications. This cannot be because it was working perfectly fine before (i leave my PC on 24 hours) and all of the sudden, I wake up and see this STOP error telling me just that. Now everytime I try to restart Windows it tells me to either get an updated BIOS or disable ACPI mode during installation of Win2K. I really don't want to have to reinstall Win2k all over again so can anyone have any suggestions on to how to overcome this? I tried "SAFE MODE" but it still goes through the STOP msg. I'm pretty much stuck right now.

The STOP Message:
*** STOP: 0x000000A5 (0x00000011,0x00000006,0x00000000, 0x00000000)
The ACPI BIOS in this system is not fully compliant with the ACPI specification. Please read the README.TXT for possible workarounds. You can also contact your system's manufacturer for an updated BIOS, or visit http://www.hardware-update.com to see if a new BIOS is available.

The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor or visit http://www.hardware-update.com for an updated BIOS, If you are unable to obtain an updated BIOS or the latest BIOS supplied by your vendor is not ACPI compliant, you can turn off ACPI mode during text mode setup. To do this, simply press the F7 key when you are prompted to install storage drivers. The system will not notify you that the F7 key was pressed - it will silently disable ACPI and allow you to continue your installation.l

My PC:
AMD Athlon 1.33 Ghz
256 MB DDR266
ASUS A7m266 (AMD 760)
Win2k w/ SP2

Any help at all will be graciously received. I'm stuck to using my laptop right now.

Thanks in Advance!!! :)

The same thing just happened to me on a triple booting pc ive got at home . Along with that error message , I recieved an " invalid Vxd dynamic link call to device 3 Service B " and in NT I received another blue screen stop error . And this all happened out of the blue .

I've checked MS's knowledge base and found articles concerning the errors I had in NT and Win98SE and they both claim corrupted ram as the culprit . I haven't pulled out the ram yet , was just gonna when i saw your post .

If you've got a known good ram module lying around , put it in there and see what happens .

No, I can't disable ACPI from my BIOS.

And sadly, I don't have a spare memory module around. Do tell me what happens when you get yours running hopefully.

Thanks again!

I pulled out one of my ram modules and my pc booted up fine , was the ram alright. Check out Microsoft's knowledge base , they've got an article about the " Acpi bios " stop error .

It was really easy for me to diagnose my problem cause I had 3 different stop errors in different OS's , 2 of which pointed directly to bad ram in the knowledge base articles I read , the 3rd being the acpi bios stop error in Win2k. I'd check the ram before trying anything else .

Yeah, I know, I tried a thorough POST and it did report a memory error as well. Weird, I have no idea why this'd happen. O well, things just die I guess. Thanks for the help!!!
