win2k account help

a friend's computer crashed (as she says) and when she restarted it, all her settings were gone. I checked. she logs in under the account name 'administrator' and her computer name is PL. So anyway, her desktop was wrong so i looked in her documents and settings folder and there are 2 user folders, administrator and administrator.pl . All her settings and old desktop appear to be in the administrator folder but her windows is currently using administrator.pl

The problem is that all her settings are gone and her programs do not run correctly or at all in some cases. Can anyone offer me some assistance?
I do not have much experience using win2k.

Id try to log in as the administrator.pl, you may have to reset the password on the account if it isnt the same as the account she now uses (if she has a password)

nono, see here is the thing
the account name she logs in as is 'administrator' not administrator.pl so she is alsready somehow logging in as administrator.pl somehow. i remember look around and seeing somewhere that it said her account was called PL/administrator.

this happens when the user profile gets corrupted or some funky stuff happens when the computer was on a domain, but isn't removed properly. i'm not sure of an easy way to fix it other than to copy the contents of important folders like Favorites, Documents, Desktop, etc. over to the new one. Better yet, create a brand new user account and copy it there, then delete both.
