I know this has probably come up in a previous thread, but I searched and couldn't find it. Anyways, what's the consensus on Windows 2000...I have 98 right now...is there a whole lotta difference?
Yes, i agree, win2k over winME, I originaly upgraded to ME, and i had so many problems, then win2k, and so far i have had 2 random freezes in 1.5 months. 2k is great!
There is 1 MS opperating system I would consider for home use and it is 2k. The 9X kernel is sick, the NT kernel is great, but largely unsupported before 2k. If you don't use things like unique styluses etc. you will be more than happy with win2k. I have not been told to reboot when I haven't wanted to a single time since I finished tweaking my system.
Win2k is great, it is rock solid, and a good performer. Hardware support is not as good as 95/98, but close. You might want to make sure that your hardware is compatible, my soundcard wasn't, I had to revert to an old ISA until I can get a new one.
Also, if you're going with Win2k, you should have at least 128MB of RAM
I'd go with win2k. I know it isnt *that* long, but can win9x do this: Time is 7:13pm, computer has been up for 3w 2d 2h 23m 15s. I think that speaks for itself with all the other features win2k offers.
Yeah... win2k is great but for games... depending of your video card, you will encounter a performance hit. With my G400 max I measured a 15-40 % performance hit over win 98 !! Thats a lot !
ANyway, its nice to have win2k installed for everything else !
