I installed win2000 on the same partition as win98se, i.e. C:. Everything works fine except the Outlook Express in win98. On clicking its icon (shortcut to default "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express&quot😉 a box "can't load MSOE.dll" comes up and is aborted.

Before the installation I anticipated win2000 would overwrite some common files so OE of win98se was backed up in advance. However, the same "can't load MSOE.dll" box appear no matter I run the backup win98se OE copy at "D:\Program Files\Outlook Express", or copy the whole win98se OE backup copy to "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express"

What can I do? I'll try reinstall win98se OE later, hope this will help.

While playing around with win98 and 2k on a single partition, I remember having several problems with OE and IE 5.01. It's been some time since this setup so I don't remember the exact error messages, but I know going to a multiple partition setup cured all my little bugs. Hope this helps 🙂

By installing both OSes to the same partition, it is very likely that the later install destroyed some files from the first install. In your case, it *could* be a problem with different versions of OE running. If you update both sides to, say, IE 5.01 SP1 and OE 5.5 (part of IE 5.01 SP1), then they *might* work.

And to all the kiddies out there, this is an example of why many siggestion installing Windows OSes to different partitions.
