okay dude, i'st, have you run aspichk.exe?
its a little util that checks and tells you if you have all those files needed.
i had some lame problems with my burner and win2k too.
1st it all worked, then it didnt...and it would freeze me when i tried to burn both with ez cd, and nero.
heres what the problem was:
dma was enabled for the ide controller that my burner uses.
so go into device manager, expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
your primary controller should be in ultra dma mode if possible.[hdd].
your secondary controller [which mostlikely is used by your burner] should NOT be in DMA mode...choose PIO mode only...or anything other than DMA...solved all my problems.
now make sure your cd-rw software [drivers, etc.] are all installed propperly.
run that aspichk.exe [can be found at adaptec site] to make sure you have the atapi drivers.
one more thing:
go into administrative tools > computer managment.
expand storage > expand removable storage > expand physical locations.
right click on your cd-rw drive > properties.
under the media tab make sure cdrw is in there [it may already be or maybe just cdrom is in there]...i dunno if it does any good but i added cdrw to mine while searching to solve my problem.
deffinately be sure dma isnt enabled on your cdrw [secondary controller]
if your not sure which controller your cdrw uses go into go into administrative tools > computer managment > disk managment.
right click on your cdrw drive and go properties.
it will tell you which controller it is using
good luck.
