Win2000 sucks for gaming... a question I have... How can I tweak a dual boot?

I gave up trying to get Win2000 to work with some of the 3D games I have. I figured, I would use some of the 10 gig HD's I have, install Win98 then use it along with my main HD which has Win2000 already installed on it. The question remains: can I have the choice at the boot time to switch among the two? Any way possible?

Thanks guys!

Hi, I've got a couple of video cards for sale here:

Diamond Stealth III S540 AGP card (32MB): Comes with manual, jumpers, and drivers CD (no box): $85 shipped

Voodoo 3 3000 AGP (16MB): Comes with card only: $95 shipped

These prices aren't static if you want, make a competitive offer I may very well take you up on it.

yea, when you install windows 2k, it will automaticly set up a dual boot menu, and will default to boot to windows 2k. what you CANT do is install win 9x over 2k, it screws up the master boot record (i know from experence...)
so, you will have to do a format and install 98 first, unless you want to do some MBR editing :D BTW, what games were they? maby i can help...

It's not the video card that's causing the problem... Thank you for offering such a good buys but I'll stay with my TNT2 Ultra. It really kicks cow's a$$ but only works well in Win98 environment. Not even 2k drivers didn't fix it...

Thank you guys,

Jason... That was "Soldier of Fortune" and "Half Life" I really love those two. That's what I've tested so far... I am not going to waste anymore time tweaking with Win2k until some major changes take place (I don't hold my breath though)It's clear that this is a business OS.

Hmmm, isn't $85 a little too much to be asking for a used Stealth III S540? Even $95 is kind of steep for that Voodoo3. A quick visit to Pricewatch shows that you can get a S540 for $55 new and a Voodoo3 3000 for $85 new with TV-out.

If you install 98, it will overwrite the NT loader in MBR. All you need to do then, according to other threads I have read, is put in the 2000 cd, and choose repair installation instead of new install. It should put NTloader back in and also detect the 98 install allowiong you to get to both.

Not that it has anything to do with the actual question, but Ive played both HL and SoF in Win2K on both a TNT2-Ultra and a G256-DDR, worked like a charm.
In the case of SoF I had to log in as a non-administrator user though, dont know why, or if its been fixed since.
Win2K has worked fine with all my other games too for that matter.

I have a dual boot and no problems running HL or SoF in win 2K... if anything the game are more responsive than in win98. There are some hiccups... but all in all I don't use 98 that often these days.

If your C: drive is NOT NTFS, boot with the Win98 CD and install it with 'setup /ntldr'
