Hey all. 2 days ago, I asked if there was any way to use Windows 2000 Advanced Server as a router between my cable modem, ethernet card, and wireless adpater. Someone siad that Win2K server had router stuff built in, and I found it. After enabling it, I could send pings and traceroutes between the WinXP system connected with an ethernet cable, and the WinME system across the house connected with a wireless network adapter. I could even access shared files and printers.
The problem is, the WinME system did what it does best (crash) and I had to reboot. When I did, I could still send pings and tracerouts across the router, but I could no longer access shared files.
Here's the output of ping and tracert from the WinXP box:
C:\>ping 192.168.1.2
Pinging 192.168.1.2 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.2: bytes=32 time=95ms TTL=127
Reply from 192.168.1.2: bytes=32 time=45ms TTL=127
Reply from 192.168.1.2: bytes=32 time=74ms TTL=127
Reply from 192.168.1.2: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=127
Ping statistics for 192.168.1.2:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 19ms, Maximum = 95ms, Average = 58ms
C:\>tracert 192.168.1.2
Tracing route to COLLECTIVE [192.168.1.2]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms SUPERNOVA [192.168.0.1]
2 43 ms 104 ms 104 ms COLLECTIVE [192.168.1.2]
Trace complete.
C:\>ping COLLECTIVE
Ping request could not find host COLLECTIVE. Please check the name and try again.
C:\>tracert COLLECTIVE
Unable to resolve target system name COLLECTIVE.
When I try to map a network drive or connect to the printer, I get errors like "computer not found", "share does not exist", "route not available", and so on.
What happened, and how do I fix it?
Also, is there any way to share the internet connection with both subnets? I can only get one working at a time.
