Win2000 problems with a HPT370A controller

I can inostall Win2k normally without a hitch but when I install the drivers for this thing it just crashes on every boot. Only way to get it working again is to take the card out and deinstall the drivers. :-(

It is an Advance Logic 29100 non Raid controller

I already tried the following:

newest BIOS for Raid and normal UDMA100 (raid bios worked but windows crashed again)
tried all the drivers for w2k aswell with no luck

next step is to put the card in a different W2K machine and try it there... any other suggestions???

EDIT: OK same problem occurs on Asus P2B-F, Abit KT7 and ECS K7S5A... unless somebody says something constructive I'm gonna RMA it.
