Win2000 - No Blank Screen Saver

I've just converted several of my office machines to dual-boot Win / Win2000 Operating Systems. Since Seti runs better on Win2000 that's where I plan on running these machines 99% of the time.

Question 1: There is no Blank Screen Saver in Win2000. Where and how do I get one?

Question 2: I have been using the Power Management Feature for the last several days having the Monitor Power Down in x amount of minutes. Is this the same; and/or, as good as using the Blank Screen Saver (which is available in Win98/Me)?

You can just copy the Blank Screen.scr file from the Windows directory on a Win98 machine into the Windows/WinNT directory on your Win2k machine. It should then be available as an option. Using power management to turn off the monitor really doesn't help since that only affects the monitor itself, and doesn't reduce the CPU cycles being used to generate the display.

Thanks Fardringle,

I was suspicious that may be the case <only affects the monitor itself, and doesn't reduce the CPU cycles being used to generate the display.> because it looked like I was getting slower WU times than with WinMe.

I am under the impression that the big advantage of running Win2000 is the better handling of VLAR WUs and did/do not expect faster average times for average AR WUs. But it appeared the times for average AR WUs was longer, thus my question about the screen saver.

BTW, I just checked the default screen saver which appears to have a crude looking computer icon on a plain background. I did a preview which I had not tried before and bam, I got a blank screen. So it appears I should have just been using the default.

Thanks. 🙂
