Win2000 Fat32 to NTFS ???

If you installed W2K on a FAT32 the install gives you the option for NTFS. Either way unless if you do W2K as an upgrade you will lose the data stored on that drive. Unless of course your data is on another partion.

To go from FAT32->NTFS you cannot go back unless if you have a utility such as Partion Magic (R), or a imaging software such as Norton Ghost. So keep that in mind as you chose.

Hope that helps.

Good hunting!

If you convert your drive to NTFS, you won't lose your data. If you re-install Win2000 by booting the CD and choose to partition and format with NTFS, you'll lose all your data.

If you convert from Fat32 however you are limited to a 512byte allocation unit. If you do a fresh format you can use up to 4kb allocation unit.

is that really so? there is no way to set it to 4kb per allocation unit? also, what would the disadvantage of having it set to 512 byte per allocation be?

thanks
