Win2000 corrupted my winxp!!

Hi all!
I had 2 HDs in my computer :
1 with winXP on it and a 2nd one with various data .

I wanted to install win2K on HD#2 . i ran the setup program on the win2k disk and chose the partition on HD2 that i wanted to install it to. Now it turns out that install didn't work very well ( problem with the partition i slected to install win2k on).

The worst part is that now my Hd1 that had winxp on it is corrupted and won't start! I didn't intend win2k to have any influence on the existig winXP install but it did.
What can I do to get my winxp system back ?? Please let me know
Should I do a "repair" install thing ?

Sounds like you screwed up the boot.ini file with the Win2k load.

Mine looks like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /execute
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

I loaded 2k on the first partition, then xp on the second, making xp the default load choice.

Try editing the file, leaving only the reference to xp (assuming your 2k install is bad).

You can also try starting the pc with the xp cd in there. Start the Repair console and when the prompt comes up, type "FixMBR" without the quotes.

Also, I think since XP is newer, you should have installed Win2k first, then XP.

I didnt intend to install win2k ON XP. I wanted to install win2K on another HD, but somewhow it messed up my existing XP install. I will be very careful in the future about this.
So basically i need to run the command FIXMBR ? I dont have a bootable XP cd on hand. I do have the ultimate boot cd though. maybe there's a program in there that i can use.
