I am trying to help fix a computer for a friend, which I do not have immediate access to, but I will do my best.
The situation is this, the computer was working fine untill a storm hit and now his computer is having problems with internet connections. All of this is connected to a wrt54g and the laptop that connects wirelessly is working flawlessly. However the 2000 machine will aquire an ip and is connected but the internet as he described it is barely usable, takes miuntes to load google. I was able to verify that it is still set up as dhcp, and that it is connect and has an ip in the 192.168.1.10* range. He is able to very unrilable connect one of his chat programs but almost unusable.
He said it was after the had a power short and the computer restarted. I am inclinded to belive that the router is functioing normally since the wireless connection works fine. At this point I am assuming it is software or setting based, but I can't run every test that I want since I am in another town. If this seems familar or you have any advice it is much appreciated.
