Win2000 and sudden lack of ICS

It would appear that I am not the only one having issues with ICS. My network was running fine until today - ICS will not start. I'm getting error 1068: The dependancy or group failed to start. I looked at the dependencies and tried to start them, but they result in error messages, too. When I try to start the remote access connection manager, it get error 5: access denied. I am logged in as the Administrator, so why the heck would access be denied?

I am quite baffled as to why ICS suddenly suddenly stopped working. I am conected to the cable modem, whcih seems to be doing fine. In addition, I can view the other PC's on the network, but ICS fails 🙁

EDIT -
I looked in the event viewer and found the following error:
Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because it could not create buffers. Restart the computer. Access is denied.

Reboot did no good.

assuming you are the only user of your machine, check to make sure that you own all the files on your HD ... in my computer, right click C:, hit properties, go to security, clear it out and put "everybody" and "administrator" in there ... hit apply, hit advanced, check "reset properties and enable inheritance" then hit okay and watch your harddrive go nuts as it resets all your permissions.

If you don't want to be that hardcore, make sure that you have access to read, write and delete winnt\temp and winnt\tmp ... maybe even c:\temp ... those are places where temporary data is stored [buffered?].

Thanks! Since my roomates dependon the well being of my computer to access the internet, I just did the easiest fix and re-installed Windows. It worked, but it's odd how this all started....hmmm.
