Win2000 and non-accessible HDD's

Please help me !!!!!!!!

The following has occured:
My b/f is running Winamp and it gets stuck, so he wants to restart his pc. As this takes him too long he presses the reset-button. Windows restarts, but he couldn't access the D: and E: drive. Winamp was installed on D: and the mp3 he was running stood on E:. Windows gave the message "the drive isn't formatted...." and ofcourse he said no. However he can access both drives in DOS-mode (not the dos-prompt in Win). He reinstalled Win2000, still the same problem. Put the HDD in my system, still can't access the drives.

Is there any way to regain access ? What's the solution to this problem, other than copying everything to another HDD under DOS

Go to Disk Manager (right click My Computer, Manage), select the drive(s) and mount it (them) by giving it a drive letter.
