I wasted about half an hour the other day wondering if the latest version of some software (which I don't use very often) had some new bug in whereby it wouldn't let me move or delete any pictures from a user's pictures folder (it first created a UAC prompt, then it said access denied anyway), to then realise that I've been bitten by this new-ish feature.
It's a good idea, but why the hell couldn't some prompt appear to let me know what was going on? Surely when the point of stopping ransomware, I would have thought a message would appear saying what is suspected and what has been done to avert it (along with some extra countermeasures by say Windows Defender), but no.
You can add exception apps to the list so that they're allowed to manage 'controlled' locations, though you have to restart the app first for it to work.
