Win10 Update has Blown away all settings...

I just got back from several days away to a huge problem...

Evidently the latest win10 update blew away every single setting I had on the pc. I believe all the files are ok, but everything from my screensaver to ms outlook to lightroom looks like it is a new install according to the pc. Everything saved in setting up any application over the past four years is gone. I tried restoring twice to before the update but the restore failed...

I got on with ms support chat, and the best they could do is to tell me to hire a local tech. I am totally fried, it will take forever to get things reset up, and I won't know if I have it right for a very long time.

Anyone experience something like this, and if so do you have any suggestions?

Easy fix....Just restore it with one of your backup images you made for times like this. Windows restore is a hit or miss.

Spoke to one tech who said he thinks the windows update somehow deleted or corrupted my profile. Not sure what to do about that, but if so I think I'm toast and have to start over again. I do not have a current backup image to use.

Yeah, it sounds like you are going to be out of luck. At least you didn't loose your data, which is the one bright spot. It might be a good time to invest in setting up a backup regimen of some type at this point.

BTW, are you participating in the Windows Insider program? If so, you are essentially beta-testing for Microsoft which will increase the likelihood of this happening again -- you might want to withdraw from it if that is the case.

I am not an insider participant. My files are all backed up to an external hd as well as the cloud, but have never imaged the entire drive. Might have to think about that. Not looking forward to spending the next couple of weeks effectively installing everything and figuring out how I had things set up. Gotta love win10! Actually I did like it until this...

Are you logged in to a microsoft account? If you are, it should be really easy to restore settings.

You mean an Administrator USER Account but 1st you have to get into the Control Panel/User Accounts and Re-Instate your Administrator Account Profile as Default and Delete the Temporary Bull Shit Account. If you have lost your DeskTop, "Note Pad" is a Great Browser to find the Control Panel.

When Upgrading Win and when it Re-Boots to the New OS you should always Create a Dummy Account so that you can navigate to Control Panel/User Accounts and RESTORE your Administrator Profile Rights but if you fail to do this "Notepad" will guide you and correct the dilemma.

Wish you would stop tantalizing Newbies with your short rhetoric posts to clock up hits on this forum, as you know better.
