Win10: Any idea where this "Creator's Update" label came from?

Though to be more specific, why we now have three "Creators Update"s?

Allegedly the 1703 "Creators Update" was called that because it was aimed at creative types... one app, that could have been piled in like every other app as just some random update, is the cause of an entire OS update? What about the other two? Is the "Fall Creators Update" for creative types who only get the urge in autumn? The latest one is going to be called the "Spring Creators Update" apparently.

Did MS run out of OS update naming ideas after two because they felt their style being cramped by alphabetic random word name updates and just plain randomly named OS updates?

I don't know, but I am getting tired of a whole new operating system twice a year. Seems extremely unnecessary.

Not sure how MS is doing it, but I like the LTS schedule ala Ubuntu. Everything's fairly different every two years, and intermediate updates are mainly security fixes with few feature updates. Debian is similar, but their release schedule can be glacial, so your software is pretty old when the next version is released. Debian stable is fine, but I'll be itching for an upgrade before Buster is released.

Haven't looked to see what they included in this update, but the first Creator update was I think largely about improving Ink support throughout the OS. And the fall one brought the things needed for Windows Mixed Reality. So more than "just an app". Of course they don't just include that stuff either so your point is completely senseless.

Now, sure, you might not care about that stuff, which that's fine, but acting like there's nothing to the updates is just dumb.

Like you wouldn't still bitch about it then. I still see people whining about when Firefox changed from 4.0.x01.20s0320 to just going to the next number.

Really it's just more frequent Service Packs by another name.

I don't agree, as the Service Packs turned into basically major security updates. The Win10 stuff has actually been adding noticeable functionality too. You can argue about it being worthwhile as being pushed on everyone, but I like the updates so far.

Not really. You have to download an entire operating system twice a year. And they don't give you any choice.

It often comes with significant changes so its not that bad. Do you also bitch about new Linux distros? I haven't had any issues with the big updates so far, they've downloaded and installed quickly. I didn't even notice the last one as it downloaded in the background, and then the install took barely more time than a normal update. I have an SSD but its an older SATA one, but it wasn't like in the past where even installing it off a disc would be like 3+ hours before you could use the computer again, or take a day or two to download the whole thing before then having to take a couple of hours to install. That's because dumbasses would just keep pushing off updates and then wonder why their computers were getting ravaged by malware. That and Microsoft, wants to keep Win 10 coherent and not start splintering it, preventing them from trying to push future things (like Windows Mixed Reality/Holographic). I personally strongly prefer this way, but then I also like most of the stuff they've been doing (I like the UI, like the bigger features). Its certainly not perfect and no I don't like everything they're doing.

I know nothing about what goes on behind the scenes, I just built the PC it runs on, but Windows 10 has been rock solid stable for me and the UI is fine.

I wasn't acting like "there's nothing to the updates", I'm talking purely about the naming convention and the reason for it. Of course there's more to the updates because otherwise a customer's computer wouldn't have choked on the 1709 update even after a clean install :)

My rock solid PC has been freezing randomly but only once a day since the installation of the Creators update.
Power up, random freeze, power button shutdown and restart and will then run all day.
Just a comment, not looking for help. Glad it was free.
