Hello,
I have a question in regards to win xp. I don't have a lot of imformation, but i will give you what the person gave to me. they had sp 1 on there system, they then got sp 2. instead of uninstalling sp 1, they installed sp 2. Now, what they were attempting to do was, uninstall sp 2, and start all over because they said after installing sp 2 over sp 1. that the system seemed to be more sluggish. So, they go to add and remove programs, click it to uninstall sp 2, it ask if they were sure they wanted to uninstall sp 1. catch that, sp 1 not sp 2. so they went ahead and clicked yes and it started uninstalling it, and they said why it was uninstalling it, it then started COPYING some sort of files on to the drive. hmmm, ok. Anyway, it froze up or something, and they just reached down and shut it off and rebooted. To their surprise, when it came back up, the windows xp boot loading screen was there, but then when it started to go to the desktop, THEN the deadly blue screen pops up, and says STOP and something to the effect of the windows startup screen something, but anyway, it says the system is shutdown, and you can't do anything but restart it, and right back to this same blue screeen. How can i get past this, so i can find the problem and get it fixed? Sorry for the lengthy letter, but this is about the best that i can explain it. If you need more info, please let me know. thanks in advance for the help. have a great night. DALE

Always a bad idea to reboot in the middle of something important like removing an SP... 😵 I'd say just reformat and reinstall...

i think youll have to bite the bullet with some data loss and agree with talyn and flamingspinach to reformat

that's kinda what i was thinking. how about a repair install? they have the win xp cd that came with the dell, still in the package.

thanks for the help. here is the actual error:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
