Win XP Woes :(

Argh! Finally after all this configuring and building, my computer is now complete. The hours spent manipulating jumpers and connecting cables is done and my computer is finally finished. I ordered an OEM copy of Win XP Home on ebay and that finally came. I made a boot disk, formatted my drives, and began installing Win XP. Everything went great. Then it said enter your name and other users. I entered my name, no other users, and hit next. System restared and i was taken to a screen that had my name next to a guitar. Clicked on my name, and a password box appears. I hit enter - nothing, i type in anything that MIGHT have been set as a temporary password - nothing. I try loading WinXP in safe mode and clicking Administrator, but i need a password. What can i do? Have all those hours spend hovering over computer guts ruined me and am i missing something simple? Any suggestions would be great. Thx!

Umm.... AFAIK, you must have put in a password on your Administrator account, but try this

Let XP boot normally, then when the welcome screen shows up, hit CTRL+alt+del, let go of delete and hit it again

This should bring up a login screen, similar to win2k's.

The default login for an admin is (case sensitive)
Login : Administrator
with the password field left blank.

If that doesnt work, AFAIK, you're screwed. Try reinstaling, and making ABSOLUTELY sure you dont put a password in it.

If that doesn't work, sounds like you got a hax0red copy of XP.

Good Luck!

I guess i will try reinstalling it. How can i clear my c:? This is the partition(2GB) that i want to install my OS and other things like it on. Since i basically can't get past the welcome screen, how can i uninstall the first WinXP?

I don't see how it could be a hacked version. It came shrink wrapped. 😕

During the XP install, it should give you an option to delete partitions and such.

BTW, i would use a larger system parttion, like 5-6GB.

My windows folder is 1.32 GB, plus i think windows likes to have its swapfile on the C drive.
