Just finished a new build and finally trying Win 7. The rig has a vanilla HD and an ssd in it. I am using Bootit NG as the partition manager/boot loader. I started by installing win xp to a partition on the hd. all good. then i installed win 7 to the sdd. this seemed to go well, and the install works, but win 7 detected the win xp install and created its own boot loader, which it stored on the xp partition. once i was done w/the win 7 install i got a microsoft boot menu that let me choose between 7 and xp. both booted fine. however, i want to use bootit so i reactivated bootit and set win7 to install directly from the ssd. that doesn't work - when i try to boot that partition i get an error that it can't find the boot loader. when i try to boot xp i get the microsoft boot menu (which works by the the way - from there i can boot to xp; haven't tried getting to win 7).
so the question is, can i fix this w/out having to reinstall everything? can i move the boot loader file to the win 7 partition and configure it to automatically boot win 7 (ie, not waste time w/the win 7/win xp menu)? if i do this will winxp boot normally like it did before i installed win 7? what is the name of the file i could move to the win 7 partition? or am i just screwed and need to reinstall everything, but install win7 first?
thanks in advance,
joe
NOTE - the hd is drive 0 and the ssd is drive 1.
