Win XP upgrade

I have a Win 98SE machine and want to move to Win XP Pro.

To do a clean/fresh install do I have to delete Win 98SE?

Can I use the Win XP upgrade (and save big $s) or do I have to use a full version to do a fresh install?

Thanks,

Tom

1. Yes. You could format and lose all data. You could upgrade and take all data (and any problems) to WinXP. Or you could deltree c:\windows and remove that directory.

2. Full or upgrade both can do a clean install.

Interesting. Does that mean one can install Win XP Pro upgrade version on a newly built computer?

How then do they check if it is a valid upgrade? Or is this just pricing strategy to get more money from people who dont know better?

WinXP setup will search for a previous install and if it can't find one, it'll ask for your previous version CD to be inserted for verification. No problems.

However, the FrontPage2000 upgrade DEMANDED that FP98 be installed first. THAT was suck.:|

So, basically the people who buy the full version instead of the upgrade either don't have a previous Windows disk or they are paying ~$100 for the right to not have to insert their Win98 disk during XP setup.
