Vista is not coming out in a month or two. The mfgs like Dell, HP etc., possibly would get it for their machines by November if everything goes well with the RC-1 and the others. The retail availability was said to be available by Jan 2007 if everything goes well with RC-1 or other RC's.

This really is a sweet deal. I have parts to put together a computer that I wanted to sell and was hoping to find a good deal on XP. $17 is hard to beat. I got it with 3 day delivery.

So, with printed order in hand, reflecting the 20.00 off and the correct total, I went to the store for pickup, just like their corporate web page said I could.

The so called service manager said he was doing me a big favor, got an attitude, and he would not do it again. He had no way of ringing up a cash sale with the coupon code, so he manually took off 20.00. I told him that was a problem between him and the home office, since their own web page let me place the order. Big favor indeed.
I had a similar experience, just used 20 off 75 and cc for B&M pickup. They flat refused to honor it saying the coupon wasn't valid for in-store purchases but I could get it sent to my home. I live in WA work in OR so it only cost me an extra $7 tax and about 15 minutes. Evidently OD doesn't take some coupons at the store.

I went to the store to pick up. The customer service was willing to let me have it no problem. However, she said that the rebate may be refused because of the coupon. She scared me! So, I chickened out and walked out! I am not going to risk $70.00.

I have received OD rebates in the past without a problem using a coupon to buy the items. In fact, the only times I buy anything from OD is when i combine a coupon and rebate offer.

I think your 'risk' is low.

I've read that if you're not doing an upgrade install from within a currently installed OS, ie you're doing it on an empty drive, you can use a Windows 2000 disk, and perhaps even a WFW 3.11 floppy disk to use this.

Then why noy just get Win 2k Pro

tallman, Can you post a deal for a legal copy of Win 2k Pro that costs less than this XP Home upgrade? I doubt it.

Thanks OP!

Picked up a copy for $85.xx.

I have not have any problems with OD rebates in the past.

I got a $100 rebate on XP Pro a several months ago.

Good deal if you "refurb" desktops to sell locally.

I have a few older model pc's in the garage that I sell for general purpose e-mail/intenet boxes.

I'm wondering if I could use this as an install disk for an ACER system that didn't provide an OS install disk. I have the XP key from the copy of XP pre-installed on the system. But not sure if I was to format the drive, would this upgrade look for an existing copy on the drive?

Also, could I use this as the install disk for all my legal XP installs (as long as I have a valid key code). This would save having to install SP2 when reinstalling w/ my older XP install disk.

You could always get a real upgrade and download Linux.

I also have had good experiences with OD rebates and coupons. I used a coupon when purchasing a laptop that had $350 in MIR. I got every single rebate with no problems.

Thanks to everyone for answering my questions. I didn't realize that my quote included the coupon codes but have since removed them. I found a $20 off $100 or more coupon at FW and bought some erasers that I needed anyways to bump it up over $100. If you search for paperclips, you can find some for under $1, and they make great filler items. It came out to $85.xx after tax. After the $70 MIR and 1% Fat Cash, it'll be less than $15. Not bad! Thanks OP!
