Win XP: Unable to Open New Window in IE 6.0

Visuvius

I am running Win XP Pro with IE 6.0.2600.

For some reason, I am now unable to right click on a link on web page and then choose 'Open in New Window'. The choice is still there, but when I choose it, it doesn't give me a new window to view the link.

Anybody have ideas as to how I can get back the Open in New Window functionality?

😕

TIA

You may need to reinstall IE 6. You could also try and install SP1 for IE 6 if you haven't tried that.

something has corrupted itself somewhere along the line. Your easiest way out would be to reinstall IE or upgrade the SP.

Here's a dumb question, you aren't running some sort of "Pop-Up Stopper" are you? The one I use prevents me from opening new windows in IE as well, to do so I have to hold down the CTRL key.

I'm not using any banner add pop up killers.

I was hoping the solution was just a simple Preferences change. Will try downloading the SPs available.

Or just switch to using Mozilla instead.

Thanks!

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 actxprxy.dll.

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:
DllRegisterServer in actxprxy.dll succeeded.

4. Click Start, and then click Run.

5. In the Open box, type regsvr32 shdocvw.dll.

6. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:
DllRegisterServer in shdocvw.dll succeeded.

7. Shut down and restart your computer.

I tried the regsvr32 suggestion, got the two successful DLL messages, but I still have the same symptom: cannot open a new windown in IE. 🙁
