A wierd thing I also noticed in these few games that I tested AFTER upgrading my video card to the Gainward 4200 64meg card and putting in my old SBLIVE! and disabling the onboard Sound processor in the motherboard,

I was getting wierd hiccups or game pauses or chops during the following games, Jedi Knight, Return to Castle Wolfenstien and Medal of Honor......its as if the game was choking on all the graphics and had to briefly pause to reload textures or something...or access the HD, Im not sure cause Im no expert but the gameplay was far from smooth.....I expected to have smooth as butter consistent fram rate action with this 4200 video card.. .Could something else be causing this sluggishness?

Also there is a setting under performance when you right click on MY COMPUTER called Processor Scheduling which lets you adjust for MEMOR USAGE there are 2 options.......PROGRAMS and SYSTEM CACHE

which one works best for best overall performance?

thanks

How do you disable the indexing service under XP Pro and secondly what does this actually do??

To the other fellow, of course I downloaded the latest drivers!

thanks if anyone else can give me some Win XP tweaking tips

!! thanks!

To answer your first question: You should have your memory settings set for Programs. Also if you can do this, set you pagefile to a different drive/partition from what your games are on (mine's on Drive F, which is a completely different HD, while games and app's are on Drive C). As for indexing, that option helps windows quickly locate files at the cost of some performance (how much performance is affected, I'm uncertain) and the option can be enabled/disabled on your drive's properties screen (also make sure compression is disabled there as well).
