Win XP Start up

Disable it? That's pretty vague.

Is it a one user system that you want to auto-logon? Do you want the ctrl+alt+del screen instead?

Not sure about the Welcome screen but you can disable the screen before that by: Start>Run> type "Msconfig" and then under the boot.ini tab check /NOGUIBOOT and click apply.

In control panel, disable the welcome screen. User accounts -> change the way users log on or off

Install TweakUI and setup auto-login. Then you can boot XP from the power button right to your desktop.

Navigate to C:\Windows\Media and delete all the WAV files in that folder. Peaceful - no more nasty windows sounds! 🙂

Err, just disable from Control Panel Sounds then the OS does not attempt to play non-existing files.

I also like to use BootSkin with a blank/black image.
