Hi all,
I built a box for a friend with Win 7 on it and he has some printer and other software issues and wants to use Win XP. Components are
Asus F2A85-M Pro
4 gbs Kingston 1600mhz 9-9-9 DDR3 Hyperx
AMD A10 5800k Blk Edt
Samsung 8592 Dvd
Toshiba 1Tb 7200 rpm

The drive is fresh and as I have it boot off the DVD first error code
1) acpiec.sys failed to load
2) File partmgr.sys error 32768 caused unexpected error at line 5882 in D:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\setup.c.
3) file \ i386\ l_intel.n\s could not load error code is 7

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate any help here........goldie

If all was working fine with Win7.and the issues where more related to win7 compatibility/old software, I would look at the following for some quick diags

1) check the cd, if dirty, scratches nicks
2) check the data cable for the dvd drive, change it if have spare,
3) try a different dvd drive if have spare

Those would be my quick checks. the more details checks would be
Run Memtest and the mfg hdd test. seeing as you have a toshiba drive, they dont have a diag themselves, but you can use the seagate seatools to run the tests

When you say the drive is fresh you mean the toshiba or the samsung, or both?

Both are fresh. I went and reset all the cables and thought maybe the DVD was not set properly. Started setup again and I now get windows setup stopped to prevent damage to my computer with the blue screen Tech info *** Stop: Ox0000007E (OXC 0000005, Oxf748eObf, Oxf78Da208, OxF78D9F08) pci.sys- address F748EObf base at F7487000

The "acpiec.sys failed to load" error is because the XP installer can't find any storage device to install to. If you're trying to install XP from the CD you'll need to create a slipstreamed copy that contains the F2A85-M Pro Intel storage drivers. The easiest way to do that is by using Nlite. You might get away with just copying them to a USB stick and then use the F6 method to install the drivers at the very beginning of the installation, but I think slipstream would be the better choice for success.

AMD's AHCI drivers are what's needed, not Intel's.
Note: the XP setup installer cannot read drivers from a USB thumb drive. Must be from a floppy drive, CD ROM, or on a separate HD partition. Or else: slipstream into a re-done XP installer disk.
Another option: change the bios setting from AHCI mode to IDE mode.

My bad for not checking the website... but my point is valid. Thanks for the heads up!

Switch it to IDE in bios and it stops same spot same message. I thought you were on to something vailr. Thanks

You'll still need to load the AMD storage driver at the beginning of the XP installation.

the XP cd you are using:

is it the original XP? SP1? SP2? Slipstreamed SP3?

seems issues like yours maybe caused by not installing XP with SP2 in it.

Its an original disc...huh

These are the Asus 32bit XP drivers, on the Asus F2A85-M PRO download page, that (along with XP Service Pack 3) would need to be slipstreamed into your original 32bit XP CD in order for it to be both installable and functional:

1. AMD Chipset Driver V5.12.0.15 for Windows XP 32bit---(WHQL).
2. Realtek Audio Driver V5.10.0.6657 for Windows XP 32bit---(WHQL).
3. AMD Graphics Driver V9.0.100.2000 for Windows XP 32bit---(WHQL)
4. Realtek LAN Driver V5.796.503.2012 for Windows XP 32bit & XP 64bit---(WHQL).
5. Asmedia USB 3.0 Driver V1.16.2.0 for Windows XP 32bit & Vista 32bit & Vista 64bit & Win7 32bit & Win7 64bit & Win8 32bit & Win8 64bit---(WHQL).
6. Asmedia USB3.0 Controller Driver V1.14.3.0 for Windows XP/Vista/7 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL)
7. AMD AHCI/RAID driver V3.3.1540.22 for Windows XP 32bit---(WHQL).

As the alternative to creating a slipstreamed XP installation CD; the "AMD_AHCI_V120010317_33154022_XPViataWin7.zip" file also includes a folder named MakeDisk that contains the Asus utility for creating a USB drive which will contain the required XP storage drivers to be used with the F6 key driver installation method, at the very beginning of the XP setup. The problem is that the AsMakeDisk.ini file path is wrong and you'll need to manually edit it first, in order for AsMakeDisk.exe to work properly, after you've extracted the contents of the .zip file.

This is the contents of the "AMD_AHCI_V120010317_33154022_XPViataWin7.zip" file as viewed in 7-zip:

This is the contents of the MakeDisk folder:

The fourth line down of the original AsMakeDisk.ini file (blue arrow above) reads: Path1= ..\Driver\WinXP, which needs to be opened in Notepad and edited to read: Path1= ..\WinXP and then saved:

[InstallMakeDisk]
installcount = 1

Item1= AMD RAID/AHCI XP Driver
Path1= ..\WinXP
USBfloppy1= HardwareIds.SCSI.Napa_i386_ahci8086

[FixedAddToSectionID]
id1 = "USB\VID_03F0&PID_2001", "usbstor" #--HP
id2 = "USB\VID_054C&PID_002C", "usbstor" #--Sony
id3 = "USB\VID_057B&PID_0001", "usbstor" #--Y-E Data
id4 = "USB\VID_0409&PID_0040", "usbstor" #--NEC
id5 = "USB\VID_0424&PID_0FDC", "usbstor" #--SMSC
id6 = "USB\VID_08BD&PID_1100", "usbstor" #--Iomega
id7 = "USB\VID_055D&PID_2020", "usbstor" #--Samsung

Now when you double-click AsMakeDisk.exe the Asus MakeDisk utility will open correctly:

If you're able to succesfully install XP by loading just the AMD storage driver from the USB stick, you'll still need to manually install XP Service Pack 3, as well as the previously listed Asus AMD 32bit XP drivers.

Somebody has to say it - put Win7 back on and tell him to buy a new printer.
Or at the very least install Win7 and give a virtual machine a shot. Most USB printers can be bridged into the VM.

Thanks all, I have to tell you I think that's past my skill levels. My XP disc is mine and I have the product key. Any chance someone here could put all these together on a disc for me. Sorry drywall taper here :-( ......goldie

just download nlite: http://www.nliteos.com/download.html

follow the walk-through on the website: http://www.nliteos.com/guide/index.html

you can do this with an XP machine or a win 7 machine.

you do have to alter folder options to show hidden folders and show protected system files when copying the XP cd.

the rest is easy.
