I have XP on my hard drive and want to do a clean reinstall, I am not really sure on how to do this. I started by using the xp cd and selecting to reinstall xp. It got into a bunch of partition questions I didnt understand so I quit and escaped from the install.
What is the best way to do this reinstall?

Also if I backed up my files to a spare drive that has win2000 on it and I suppose is fat32, will those files be unusable if I reinstall xp in NTFS ?

Thank you

After XP loads the setup files it will show your existing partitions. If you no longer want those choose to delete the partitions. Create new partitions and format them. Then choose a partition to install XP on.

Thank you.

How about the fat32 and ntfs compatibility. I had some fat32 files and sent them to my ntfs laptop and they were read fine. Is the compatibility issue only with system files??

Yes the ntfs will read the fat systems. However if you use a dual boot with 95/98/ME you would not be able to read the ntfs files from those OSs
