on my dual boot system, win98se lets my HD run in DMA mode but winxp refuses. I've selected "DMA if available" in device manager, but it still runs in PIO mode. how can i make winxp use DMA mode?

Yeah, and if this doesn't work you could try removing the IDE channel from device manager and rebooting.
