Rant: Why the heck does Windows XP refuse to work with so many programs written for 98/ME? All other Windows OS's seem to more or less be "backwards-compatible" in this sense, why not XP? I just spent forever and a day downloading Pro Tools (10 megs, yes that's huge for my 56k), and tried to install it. It apparently won't work with XP, cause it gives a message about only working with "98 SE and higher". It worked fine on my old ME machine. And besides, what does XP actually offer us that wasn't there in ME or 98? People were all like "oooh, XP's the next big thing, picture the move from 3.1 to 95, it's gonna be that big, it's gonna be sooo much better. Now, I don't claim to be quite the guru that I'm sure many of the folks here are, but I do consider myself somewhat of an "advanced user", in that I do much more on my computer than your average user would likely attempt. So far, I've really found no major differences between this and ME, and it certainly isn't any more stable. After about a month of use, to me XP=ME with prettier graphics. :disgust:
Question: Are there any good, free alternatives to Pro Tools? I know it's pretty much the industry standard, and I loved and had gotten used to using it. But, well, see above paragraph.
Thanks, folks.
