When booting up computer the following error comes up.
Please advise how to correct this problem.
Thankx,
Bill

Explorer.exe
Application Error
Host integrity check failed
The application failed to initialized properly
(oxc0000005)
*Screen has background but no icons
Also, under My Recent Documents ? nothing shows up

You should still be able to pull up task manager, using Ctrl-Alt-Delete. From there, you can run a new task (program). You should run cmd.exe and try out a few things.

First, I would type "sfc /scannow". This forces Windows to scan the Windows system files to verify that they haven't been modified.

Next, try to run a few other apps like "notepad.exe" and "regedit.exe". If those applications start without issue, then you may just have a broken 3rd party Explorer plug-in. If you get that far, reply back.

Do you have anti-virus and/or anti-spyware software installed on this system? Malware is also a possibility.

i was able to open the notepad and regedit files with no problem.

antivirus and anti spyware software is installed.

thankx so much for your help in getting this resolved.

for some reason some of the documents are now coming up but not all and still no icons on the desktop.

Dell tech support said to turn the computer off, re-start and hit F8 and go into safe mode and click on restore and follow the prompts and I did that and presto, everything is back to normal.

I am having the same problem. Getting the background for the desktop but no icons and cant seem to do anything. I can open notepad and regedit like mentioned above though.

I am at a loss now??

Bob
