I installed both OS but they worked well first but after one or 2 shutdown & restarts it keep sayong there is a hardware problem in a blue screen after the win Xp logo displayed and restarts.
(even when theres no pci componet hooked)

Is it because min RAM?

I know u people will laugh at this pc config but
actually this is not my pc its very old one im having some troubles in my pc.
I just want to check my Sound card.

Thanks for replys,

i ran memtest, (i was not sure how to work memtest) but i think ram was not bad as memtest said

I have used this pc with xp and 2000 for long time without problem ( with 192MB ram) but some time ago I removed my 128MB ram and installed again but it wasn?t working

so I used 64MB ram and without any problem it worked months (also networked LAN 100MBps with my pc.)
but couple of days a go problem started.
Problem is only with XP and 2000 still Im using WIN98 very well.

This is what blue screen says,(blue screen comes immediately after the XP Bars (about 4 bars)

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

SESSION 5_INITIALIZING_FAILED

If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this a new installation ask your hardware or software manufacture for any windows updates.
If this prolem continues disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching and shadowing. You need to use safe mode to remove or disable components. Restart in safe mode

Technical Info.
***STOP: OXOOOOOOO71 (OXOOOOOOOO, OXOOOOOOOO, OXOOOOOOOO)

but I have disabled bios chache and shadowing also I get this screen even from starting safemode . I have also tested removeing all the pci components but nothing.

Please help t get out of this.
Thanks.

Could be your hard drive. Is it a good quality new drive, or is it an older one?

With only 64mb of ram it has to be using the page file quite a bit. Not only would this be slow as balls, but it could be wearing out your hard drive.

If it hits a few bad sectors it's likely to crash because the hard drive is basically acting as your ram.

Get more ram and see how it works. There's gotta be somewhere you can pick up another stick of 64mb on the cheap.

That would only cause poor performance. It shouldn't make the OS blue screen. If the memory is ok, it could well be the hard drive as V00D00 suggested. It could also be that the windows install got corrupted some how. I'd suggest getting a new hard drive (something like a seagate -- stay away from maxtor and wd), installing a fresh copy of windows on it, then copy any important data off of your old hard drive.

Memtest86 needs to be run a long-time (overnight) for adequate testing.

Could also run Prime95 blend or torture test to check ram.

I'm leaning towards ram.

I dunno. I'd think it would run like ass. Such total ass that you shouldn't even try to use it...but he shouldn't be getting blue screens.

I agree memtest should be run for a longer time, but if he's getting this stop error consistently on bootup and memtest didn't detect the problem during 1 full pass its probably not the memory.

Besides, didn't he say he had it running fine for awhile with only the 64mb stick in?
