Later on tonight my neighbor is bringing his P4 dell over here that always freezes when it gets to the "loading windows xp" page. He would like me to take a look at it. At the moment that is all I know about it...are there anythings I can try to get this thing to boot? I thought I'd try a get a head start on this problem.

You can try to boot into safemode, you can try to do a last know configuration,you can try to do a repair with the xp disk, and you can try using the recovery console.
