Got a new computer at work (university). To save money I ordered it with Win XP Home. I booted up, quickly went through the setup screens. Computer works just fine.
Then took out the educational copy of Win XP Pro to erase all the crap that came with the new computer and to get on a slightly more powerful operating system. It keeps getting halfway through the installation and then I get the blue screen of death. The error message is Bad_Pool_Caller.
Of course now I cannot boot into anything or install Win XP Pro. Anyone know how to fix the issue, or do I have to install Win 95 to get into windows to install another OS (educational Windows CDs are non-bootable)?
Microsoft says: "If you encounter a Stop 0xC2 message while upgrading to Windows XP Professional, the problem might be due to an incompatible driver, system service, virus scanner, or backup. To avoid problems while upgrading, simplify your hardware configuration and remove all third-party device drivers and system services (including virus scanners) prior to running setup. After you have successfully installed Windows XP Professional, contact the hardware manufacturer to obtain compatible updates."
The hardware is as simple as it gets - just 1 HD and 1 CD drive. Nothing else - not even a video card. I don't know how to simplify it any further.
