I just got back from a traveling and had my laptop connected to a wireless hot spot. Now when I try to connected to my desktop shares, I can't use \\desktop but when I do \\IP address it works.

The laptop correctly gets an IP address and the subnet and gateway are correct. I can connect to the internet with the laptop. The desktop machine can see access shares of other machines but not the laptop.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Annoying stuff these wireless connections can cause, I have trouble when people come to work on my domain and wont register with DNS for a while and in turn get blocked by the web inspector when they shouldn't. If when you are at home you don't use your wireless connection, try turning it off. Make sure you are on the correct workgroup as well. You may also want to try going to command prompt and doing an ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew.

Oh, also on your laptop make sure that your windows XP firewall isn't turned on (or other software firewalls) that can stop people from accessing your shares or even pinging you.
